Bombing down Sion Hill
A scheme was launched in Bristol to allow public hire of a fleet of e-scooters. Anyone could pay via a smartphone and unlock the scooter for personal travel. Many people raised concerns that such a scheme would cause chaos on the roads and fail to take drivers out of their cars. Others found them to be easy to pick up and, being as there are hundreds left on the city streets, available on every corner. Lots of users found them to be great fun too. Pub-goers look on as the young girls ride down the road.

Clifton, Royal York Crescent - BS8
Some unusually high retaining walls and steep steps up onto Royal York Terrace at the Sion Hill/York Gardens end of Royal York Crescent allow the inhabitants of this long row of attached houses some very elevated views across Hotwells and beyond. The trees behind the lamppost are part of a private, communally owned garden belonging to the residents of these two streets. According to a nearby heritage plaque Eugenie de Montijo (1826-1920), wife of Emperor Napoleon III, attended school in 1836 in one of the properties currently covered in scaffolding.

The long terrace of stately houses are classic Georgian architecture, but they stand on a matching row of undercrofts, cellars and basements - each with their own imposing appearance.

Time goes quickly in the food business
This modest restaurant has a place in history as the first bistro that chef Keith Floyd opened. It served from 1969-72 and then became operated by other concerns. The last ones, Wallfish, received many plaudits but only lasted a few months before shutting down in November, 2019. It remained on the market after the Covid lockdowns.
