Abbots Leigh cricket club
You've sung the hymn tune (watch that antepenultimate note!), now play on the cricket ground. Abbots Leigh Cricket Club has a long history; it was already in existence in 1860 although its official foundation date is 1890. The club moved to this site in 1952. http://abbotsleigh.play-cricket.com/ On this day it was hosting a visit from Bath University Venturers. The pavilion is rather more impressive inside than its portakabin-like exterior would suggest.

Abbot's Leigh village hall
A splendid Victorian hall that is the pride of the village, built in 1896 by Sir Cecil Miles. In 1915, the whole Abbots Leigh Estate was sold and the hall was part of the lots. It was then given to the village council in 1927 by Mrs Yda Richardson, who at that time resided in the Manor House. She also gave a hall to the village of Norton Malreward. Yda was the niece of Lord Winterstoke (formerly Sir William Henry Wills, member of the tobacco company family).
