Memorial Arch, Clifton College
The arch was constructed in 1922 to a design by Charles Holden. He incorporated limestone ashlar with local Brandon Hill Grit stone as a tribute to the fallen of WWI. The college's copper-clad chapel is beyond the gates.

College Road looking in the Lansdowne Road direction with Clifton Down (the A4176) 1/2 mile behind the photographer. The college's memorial arch that commemorates those teachers and pupils who died during the two World Wars forms one entrance into the College.This is an independent school that was founded in 1862. It admitted girls to the Sixth Form in 1987 and is now fully co-educational.

The college's memorial arch commemorating the teachers and pupils who died during the two World Wars as seen from "The Quad". Beyond the gates lies College Road and on the opposite side of the road is Dakyn's House. This used to be one of the college's residential houses for boarders but now houses non-boarding facilities for two boys' "houses". (H.G. Dakyns, a master and a Greek specialist was also a tutor for Lord Alfred Tennyson's children once). East Town (day) Moberly's House (boarding) North Town (day) This is an independent school that was founded in 1862. It admitted girls to the Sixth Form in 1987 and is now fully co-educational.

Haec Studia Oblectant
The motto of Clifton College translates as 'These studies give delight'. It adorns the facade on top of Oakley's House, near the main college campus. This part of the large building appears to be a much later addition to the nineteenth century original. See Image] for a wider view of this unusually styled college property.

A large building on Percival Road is now part of Clifton College's student provisions. The mock Tudor theme is part of the range of features that this building displays; the large wing to the left is a more recent addition to the original and has the motto on the top - see Image
