The changed faces of All Saints
The church stands in Pembroke Road (once known as Gallows Acre Lane) after being founded in 1868. After further additions, the church was badly gutted by an incendiary attack in 1940, with much of the interior lost. Many parishioners and pupils of a school formed a human chain to rescue as much of the furnishings as possible.
Having been forced to hold services in the adjoining parish hall (now flats as Garden Court), it took many years for the rebuilding to start. However, the latest architectural impetus brough this striking blend of old and new styles.

Tower of Church of All Saints, Clifton
The Church of All Saints in Clifton was originally designed by George Edmund Street and was built between 1868 and 1872. An incendiary bomb destroyed the chancel and nave of the church on 2 December 1940. In the 1960s the church was restored and in aluminium fleche was placed on top of the tower. The entrance to All Saints
Founded in 1868 and rebuilt after the war in 1967, the church has managed to retain the old entrance. The mixture of old and new architectural styles is quite apparent both inside and out.

One of two doorways that survived
All Saints was hit by an incendiary attack on the night of 2nd December, 1940. The fires took hold of the main part and caused a lot of damage. After the war the architect W. H. Randall Blacking was appointed to design the 'New Church' but there were many delays, both financial and administrative. It actually took 27 years before work was permitted - in which time Blacking has died and his partner, Robert Potter, took over. Some of the original 1868 church remained in healthy condition and is incorporated into the strikingly modern appearance the church now has.
