The lights have gone out
The old Filwood Broadway cinema lies forlorn and abandoned. The central features above the entrance are just about holding on to some of their former glamour.

The old cinema on Filwood Broadway
Built as a cinema in the post-war period, along with much of the estate, the old flicks has been shut for some time. Some of the glamour is still visible, although the later mural is also falling into disrepair as time goes by.

A small window on the old cinema still shows some of its former glamour, despite being the target of stone-throwers.

Fading names on a fading cinema
The old cinema on Filwood Broadway has closed and opened on a few occasions, but is now firmly shut. One such reopening saw some use as a music venue but that was as short-term venture. To mark it, some exterior murals listed the acts; the show was some time ago and the march of time hangs heavily.

Fenced off
The old Filwood Broadway cinema has been the focal point of this area since it was built in 1938. Originally a cinema, it also held local boxing bouts and even received a visit from P.J. Proby in the 1960s. However, times change and the cinema turned into a bingo hall from 1981-94; following that it has become a derelict hall and now looks more likely to be demolished. See Image] for a closer look at the detail.

The years have not been kind
Some of the original decoration and the more modern embellishments are both looking rather tired and unloved now. See Image] for a wider view.

Filwood cinema
This art deco building stands as a testimony to how the suburbs of South Bristol have changed in the 50+ years since this building was in its prime. At least the local graffiti artist has made something of the blank canvas.
