Tobacco shrinking, houses rising
New housing blocks are going up in Bedminster. They are taking over some of the old Wills tobacco factory site, which itself took over the old tannery that used to stand here. In fact, an old street - Brook Street - ran where the crane is.

The new build back of East Street
Massive housing plans are being fleshed out on the site of the old Wills tobacco factory. The area had been one of heavy industries for well over a century.

A Wills design on a Wills factory
The Number 1 factory was built in Bedminster as the company outgrew the old Redcliffe site in the late nineteenth century. Sir Frank Wills himself designed the new place, which has the logo of 'ITC' - Imperial Tobacco Company. The factory was opened in 1886, covering some 0.7 ha (1.75 acres) of an old tannery site.

Apartments by the yard
New buildings are being built on the old industrial site in the heart of Bedminster. After the old timber yards, sawmills and tannery were replaced by the tobacco factories, that too has been replaced by a large supermarket. Now the new occupiers will have a grand view across the area and the delivery yard right next door.

Woolies, Bedminster
Woolworths in East St, Bedminster. A great shop stocked full of all sorts of items you didn't realise you needed. The company was heavily in debt, consequently this store closed on 3rd January 2008.
