Benchmark on a gatepost
The gatepost is not obvious Image The OS description is GTP NE SIDE DRIVE SE FACE 4.6M SE JUNC HEDGES. The mark was covered in ivy and is much eroded.

Bracket fungus and deer skull
This beech tree has been dying for several years. Note the missing trunk! There are several fruiting bodies of the bracket fungus on the trunk.

Bracket fungus and woodpecker holes.
This beech tree has been dying for several years and the rotting trunk is providing nest sites for woodpeckers as well as many insects.

A fine track
This track runs along the north side of Wavering Down, eventually becoming Barton Drove, a fine old track between rows of trees. At the point shown, a short overgrown track (marked on the 1:25000 OS map by a widening of the main track) goes off to a gate on the left. The lefthand gatepost carries an OS benchmark Image
