The mayor's lair
Right beside the war memorial in Grove Park is this unassuming building. Weston-super-Mare Town Council is based here, having been established in 2000, . In 1889 Town Commissioners (the earliest form of elected local government established here in 1842) purchased the 8 acre Grove Park and Grove House from Cecil Smyth-Pigott, Lord of the Manor, for the benefit of the people of Weston-super-Mare. Weston-super-Mare Town Council is the 'parish' council for the town. It has 31 Councillors who take no allowance and is the only democratically elected body that exclusively represents the people of Weston-super-Mare.

Dedicated to all who fell
Weston's war memorial is unusual in having sections for civilians as well as military victims. Unfortunately some of the copper plates used were stolen in November 2010 and replaced at some expense. Some of the names listed were not recorded elsewhere so finding an accurate replacement was difficult. The memorial was rededicated on 16th May 2011. See Image] for more.

Looks familiar?
The angel atop the memorial to the fallen in Grove Park, W-S-M. After a certain Doctor's appearance on our screens there seems to be a slightly sinister feel to it perhaps?
