A tall and sombre front
The wall was part of the Bristol New Gaol of the 1800s. Granite and marble was used in part for the construction and made for a difficult place to operate in the dark of night - for both inmates and warders. Demolished as a prison it became used for many other commercial purposes before its current state of redevelopment.

Inside the walls
In the 19th century, this was the heart of Bristol New Gaol. All that remain are sections of wall and gateways. Now being cleared for the foundations of apartments, offices and shops. The residual ruins are being incorporated into the development plan.
