Hero's home in Victoria Park
This modest house in a suburban backstreet of Fishponds carries a blue plaque commemorating former resident Robert George Taylor, who lived here with his parents and in 1950, aged 30, lost his life trying to prevent a bank robbery. He was awarded the George Cross posthumously.

War memorial in Fishponds Park
This rather striking memorial is for the local men who fell in the Great War. The figure is mounted on a granite plinth with plaques listing the dead on all sides.
This memorial was one of many memorials designed and executed by the company Humphrys and Oakes- ecclesiastical craftsmen- of 109 Lawrence Hill, Bristol.
[Information supplied by Mary Gunningham, grandaughter of Charles Frederick Oakes.]

The Master's House
This short row of houses is the old Master's House - related to a nearby charity school. It is remarkable as being the place where Hannah More (1745-1833) was born; the stone plaque records the date as February 2nd, 1745. In the middle is a modern blue plaque which notes that More was a Christian educationalist, writer and anti-slavery campaigner. She was an important force for many causes and a blue stocking character, although also had some traditional views in women's roles.
