Thekla, Bristol
This information is from Thekla's website: Thekla is a cargo ship which houses a music venue of the same name, moored in the Mud Dock area of Bristol's Floating Harbour. Originally brought to Bristol as the Old Profanity Showboat, it was a late 1982 brainchild of novelist Ki Longfellow-Stanshall, the wife of Viv Stanshall. The showboat was based on the idea of creating, owning, and running a theatre on a seagoing ship and using it to showcase music of every sort (limited only by the size of the hold), including cabaret, comedy, plays, musicals, and poetry events. The ship also contained an art gallery. During the 1990s, under new management, it was run as a rent-a-nightclub. The ship has now been returned to its original working name of Thekla.

The Thekla imitating life
Or perhaps art is imitating it. Or perhaps both. The famous Thekla has resided quayside in Bristol for many years and remains a prime music venue. One other note of fame is that Banksy created a piece of work on the ship's hull in his early days - one that became an icon of the ship if not the city. That work was painted over some time ago but the entrance now bears a recreation of that grim artwork.

Hole in the Wall Pub, Queen Square
This pub is on the corner of Queen Square by the docks. It was called the Coach and Horses in the past. This pub was frequented by sailors and also press gangs (recruiting for the British Navy) in the 18th century. To the right of the pub is a pedestrian way which used to be a road through to Queen Square.

It's still there
The Thekla, moored for a considerable time now, was one of the first 'exhibitions' for a Mr Banksy. Despite the acclaim of the said Mr Banksy, his work was painted over, only for it to reappear again. This shows it's still on the waterline, close to the mark of another of Bristol's famous contributors - Samuel Plimsoll.
