An image of hope?
A plaintive image on the disused building on the corner of Queen Square and Prince Street. The French colours in the background suggest it is linked to the terrorist atrocities in recent times.

Bit of a squeeze
The mariners' chapel seems to have been squeezed into what space there was available. See Image] for the higher view and the bells or Image] for its neighbours.

Curious chapel
The old mariners' chapel used to have a hall downstairs for sailors to congregate in and the upper floor held the actual chapel. See Image] for the lower view.

Boarded up
Some parts of old Bristol remain something of a problem. The need to keep spending under control and the demands of maintaining the historic buildings are frequently at odds. The post-war concrete and the old mariners' chapel behind it are both shut. See Image] for more of the chapel.

Former seamen's hall
A seamen's home was established in 1853 and the present building with a chapel on the first floor and the home on the ground floor was built in 1880. Between 1957 and 1987 it was the Bristol Evangelistic Centre. Damaged during WWII, the rebuilt far end of the building is a candidate for the title of the most hideously ugly building in Bristol - and there are, unfortunately, many candidates.
