Detail of Christ Church, Broad Street, Bristol
Remarkably ornate ("fussy Neo-Renaissance" thought Pevsner). The decoration includes oak leaf bundles, egg-and-dart, rocaille, Composite pilasters, fret frieze and acanthus. This was the work of Henry Williams in 1883.

Jacks missing!
The famous quarterjacks on Bristol's Christ Church with St Ewen are taking a rest. They were rescued from a mediaeval church (Holy Trinity) that had stood near this spot until redevelopment. Once lost, they were found years later in a builder’s yard in Bath and installed in the new church in 1791. The new church kept the figures to strike the quarter-hour; however, they have needed some significant remedial work of late.

The top of Christ Church with St Ewen
The historic Grade II* listed church stands close to the old Cross that marked the centre of old Bristol. It was built in the late eighteenth century and designed by father-and-son architects Thomas and William Paty. Father Thomas designed the top, son William the main body.

Watch here - some Jacks might come out
Christ Church with St Ewen has a mechanical display of quarterjacks, or at least it did. After 350 years or more of standing on their plinths, ready to turn and strike the bells, they were taken down for inspection in 2013. Sadly, they were found to be in very poor condition and are now kept in the museum for intended repair. The carved firgures will require a lot of time, effort and (of course) money to return them.
Just keep your eyes peeled...
