Hypocaust at Kingsweston Roman Villa
An adjacent furnace provided heat which was drawn under flooring supported by these small piles. A set of baths were part and parcel of respectable villa, and a focal point of the household. See Image] for more interior views.

Kingsweston Roman Villa
A mosaic was an important status symbol, and the better quality the more important or wealthy the occupants were. This one is of moderate value, coming as it does from a Brislington site - the originals of Kingsweston are in the Bristol Museum. See Image] for more.

Mosaic, Kingsweston Roman Villa
Would it be a Roman villa if it didn't have a mosaic? A large wooden hut covers part of the western end of the complex to protect a set of mosaics - even though they aren't the originals. They are in the Bristol Museum, and these here are from a site in Brislington, south Bristol. See Image] and Image] for more.

The footings are the only remaining evidence left of this modest roman building. Most of the extent has unfortunately been lost under the road nearby. See Image] and Image] for more views, inside and out.

Kingsweston Roman Villa
The villa is largely replaced by the main road running to the right of shot. Most of the more interesting sections of the villa are believed to have been ripped up by the construction, but the excavations of 1948/9 have left us with the southern half, including the main entrance and portico. See Image] and Image] for more.
