Distance

Half Mile Drove
The lane is called Half Mile Drove and runs in a straight line between the Laughton Road (B2124) and The Broyle (B2192). I make the distance between the two roads as being around 830 yards, which is close to being half a mile but not quite.

Half Mile Drove
Former droving road now quick short cut between the B2124 and B2192. In the space of this half mile there were four freshly run over rabbits. This view looks north.

Half Mile Drove
Small lane linking The Broyle, the B2192, with Laughton Road, the B2124. Formerly part of The Broyle, a medieval deer park and common, that was enclosed in 1767. Consequently, like every other road that ran through the former park it has been designed with a ruler and is dead straight for the entirety of its half mile length. Interestingly, the lane was marked on Yeakell & Gardner's map of 1783 but not the first OS map of 1813.

Half Mile Field
The name of the field according to the 1839 tithe map. Formerly part of The Broyle, a medieval deer park and common, which was enclosed in 1767. The hedge and trees on the right mark the course of The Broyle, the B2192, whilst those in the distance mark its western border. Since the last century the southern end of the large field, out of shot to the left, has been subdivided into smaller plots.
