RCTS Sussex Rail Tour at Lewes
View NW, towards Brighton to the left, Haywards Heath and London to the right; ex-LB&SCR London/Brighton - Eastbourne/Hastings/Seaford lines; also to the right the unelectrified lines went via East Grinstead and Eridge to Oxted and London. The Tour, which was from London (see Image]), was headed from and to Brighton by these two ex-LB&SC locomotives: Stroudley A1X class 0-6-0T No. 32636 and R. Billinton E6 class 0-6-2T No. 32418 (for details see Image])

Lewes railway station
The railway station building at Lewes. On the day that the photograph was taken, the railway between Lewes and Eastbourne was closed for maintenance work with replacement buses running. The traffic cones protect the area where the buses were turning around outside the station.

Station Road, Lewes
The town of Lewes basks in bright winter sunshine. The main station building, on the right of the photo, stands between the converging lines from Wivelsfield to the north and Brighton to the southwest.
The South Mimms Travel minicoach on the left has brought the visiting Wingate & Finchley football team to the town for their match against Lewes FC, 'The Rooks'. Their stadium is behind me on my right.
