Coal plate, Watergate Lane, Lewes
'Haywards Limited Patent Union Street Borough London [S]elf-locking'. Just a pace or two off the High Street is this plate, larger than the normal size. Haywards were very prolific in London, and the large size plate crops up there with fair frequency. Haywards major output was of the standard size, however.

Rights of Man - Pub sign
Thomas Paine lived in Lewes between 1768 and 1774. He left the town when he was dismissed as an excise officer.

High Street, Lewes
There is a range of shops located along the High Street here although other shopping is available down the hill to the east in Cliffe High street. The approaching bus is operated by Compass Travel and is working a local town service.
