This large field has been split up into a several paddocks for grazing horses. The buildings of Shoreham airport can be seen in the distance.

A27 bypass at Shoreham under construction in 1968
The area shown is west of the Mill Hill bridge, the top of which would now be the line between sky and chalk. The foreground was removed to provide the deep cutting down to road level height of the River Adur Flyover Bridge.

Bridge over the A27, Shoreham
The bridge takes the minor road from Shoreham to Mill Hill over the deep cutting through the chalk and flint South Downs. The modern road takes traffic from Worthing eastwards, bypassing Shoreham, to Brighton.
