The Upper Drive
Looking up the road from near the junction with Old Shoreham Road. Laid out in the 1880s to connect the newly built Stanford estate with Preston, where the then Lords of the manor, the Stanfords, lived. Two school entrances are in this road, Cottesmore St Mary's to the left and Cardinal Newman by the red gates to the right. A third was based near the top at the junction of Dyke Road but was demolished in 1959. The road also gives an idea of the hilly nature of Brighton and Hove and how it has developed over the slopes of former Downland.

Wilbury Villas
This is the northern end of the road which once formed a fiveway junction with Old Shoreham Road and The Upper Drive but has long since been blocked off. The house on the right has been extended across two to form an office housing the head office of Early Years nursery. Visibility towards the far end of the road has been reduced due to a sea fret that has moved in the hour or so before sunset.
