On the corner of New Church Road, the B2066, and Pembroke Gardens. It was built in the 1870s and originally known as Brooker Hall being the home of John Oliver Vallance until 1893 and his wife until 1913. During the First World War it was used to house German POWs before becoming flats in 1923. Hove corporation purchased the building and opened the museum on the site in 1926. The structure in the grounds is the Jaipur Gate and was made in 1886 for the Colonial and Indian Exhibition at Kensington. It was donated to the museum in 1926 and stood on the eastern side of the grounds until 2004 when it was dismantled for renovation and returned in 2006.

The Jaipur Gate was made for the Colonial and Indian Exhibition of 1886. It has stood in the grounds of Hove Museum & Art Gallery since 1926.

Located on the corner of Pembroke Gardens and built in 1876-77 as a private residence called Brooker Hall for the Vallance family. The family ceased using the building for residential purposes in 1914 and was subsequently used between 1917-19 as residential quarters for German POWs assigned to labour at the Hove Gas Works. On the death of the original owner's wife in 1924 the estate trustees favoured selling the house to Hove council as a museum which eventually occurred in 1925 and the museum opening to the public in 1927. To offset the cost the grounds on the eastern side of the house were sold to developers for housing. The structure in the garden is Jaipur Gateway commissioned as a gift for Queen Victoria by the Maharajah of Jaipur in 1886 and presented to the museum in 1926.

[Update 6 December - Auctioned for £22,000 - the highest amount] The snowdogs by the sea is a public art trail that will take place from 24 September to 27 November 2016 across Brighton involving 45 decorated snow dog sculptures 1.5m high that are placed around various parts of the city (Except number 45 which will be located on Platform 17 at Victoria Station in London). They are based on the story of 'The Snowman and the Snowdog' the follow up to The Snowman by Raymond Briggs. Briggs at least has some association with the city having taught at the Brighton School of Art, that later became part of Brighton Polytechnic, from 1961-86. He currently resides at Westmeston a small village located along the spring line of the South Downs about seven miles north of the city centre. The trail is co-ordinated by and will raise funds for the Martlets Hospice a local charity with each dog sponsored by a local business, agency or celebrity. At the beginning of December each dog will be auctioned off along with a set of snow puppies, smaller sculptures, that have been decorated by local schools and placed in museums and libraries [Update - Auction raised £337,000 on 6 December 2016].
