Alfriston houses [21]
Numbers 10 and 11 North Street, seen here, and number 9 North Street, Image, were built in the 17th century. Constructed of flint under a tile roof. Listed, grade II, with details at: https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1191362 Alfriston is a village in East Sussex, some 6½ miles northwest of Eastbourne and 3½ miles northeast of Seaford. The village lies on the west bank of the Cuckmere River. There is evidence of occupation in the Neolithic period, with several long barrows on the surrounding downs. The village is home to The Star Inn, built in 1345 to accommodate monks and pilgrims en route from Battle Abbey to Chichester Cathedral. Also in the village is the Old Clergy House, the first building acquired by the National Trust in 1898.

Shop with an interesting history
According to the estate agent's particulars this corrugated iron building was once a cabbies' office in the yard at Victoria train station and was moved here in the late 1800s (pre-dating the surrounding houses). Previously home to the 'Shed Gallery' I don't expect it will remain vacant for long as the village is extremely popular with tourists. (Might it be a cabman's shelter rather than an office? See http://www.urban75.org/london/cabmans-shelters.html )

North Street
Viewed from Market Square with a lone horsewoman the only traffic on this normally busy road. The road flooded last week when the Cuckmere burst its banks and still has signs up at both Seaford and Berwick end indicating the road is closed though it is possible to drive the length but it necessitates a diversion via two narrow lanes, Winton Street and West Street. The cottages on the left date back to the 17th and 18th centuries whilst the terrace to the right was added in the first decade of the 20th century. Rose Cottage is the flint faced house at the bottom of the incline next to the junction with Sloe Lane.
