Coastguard Cottages, Norman's Bay
Five of the row of ten are in view with the old watch house just visible on the left hand side. Built in the early 19th century to combat smuggling which was rife on the marshes due to its isolation. The cottages originally looked out onto the sea and for many years were the only buildings in the vicinity along with Martello Tower number 54 just out of shot to the left beyond the shed. The development of Norman's Bay during the 20th century along with the construction of new sea defences means the view out to sea is no longer possible for some of the cottages.

Lane, Norman' Bay
Private road that is also a public footpath that runs along the back of the houses of the small hamlet. The terrace just in view are Coastguard Cottages the oldest building here constructed in the early 19th century near Pevensey Sluice to combat smugglers that were using the then isolated beaches of the marshes to run their contraband ashore.
