Bear Road
One of the steeper roads in Brighton running from its junction with the A270 at the Vogue Gyratory up Bear Hill to Race Hill. Originally known as Bear Hill Road after the hill it climbs the bear part commemorates the site of a bear baiting pit which stood roughly on the site of the Bear Inn to the left. The previous day's snow which gridlocked much of the city has reduced traffic at this normally busy road junction.
