Amex House ready for demolition
It seems a shame to demolish this rather smart 1970s building. American Express have moved out into a new building close by.

Amex House, Edward Street, Brighton
The building was erected in 1977 and is due to be demolished in the next year or so. American Express have moved their European headquarters, a major employer in the city, around the corner to John Street, see
Image, on the site of their old car park. The site is probably going to be used for new office development.
Originally an area of slum housing containing George Street gardens, Boss's Gardens, Riding School Lane and Mighell Street that was developed in the 1810s. All bar the eastern side of the latter were cleared after the Second World War though remained undeveloped until American Express purchased the freehold around 1972. In the process of building their office block much of the remainder of Mighell Street was demolished.

Edward Street, Brighton, Sussex
The clear blue sky, with no trace of vapour trails (no jet planes flying on 17th April), initially caught my attention; then I noticed the street lights. I was lucky to get a traffic-free shot, before the traffic lights changed.

34-35 Mighell Street
Head south down Tilbury Place and at the junction with Carlton Hill is also one with Mighell Street. Hidden away behind a garage is the only house in the street, an old early 19th century farmhouse. The street survived the slum clearances of the 1960s but the southern end was demolished in the mid 1970s for an office development. The parking space is used by the probation service though the house itself seems to be hidden behind windowboards.
