Willingdon houses [5]
Even numbers 32 to 38 Church Street are a row of four cottages of almshouse character. Dated 1857 and constructed of coursed flints with dressings of cement under tile roofs. There is a shaped and a plain gable. Listed, grade II, with details at: https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1028504 Once isolated villages, Upper Willingdon and Lower Willingdon, are now part of the built-up area of Eastbourne. Set on a spur at the foot of the South Downs, the village lies astride the A22 road, about 1 mile south of Polegate. There is evidence of occupation since the pre-Saxon age.

At the junction of Church Street and Eastbourne Road, outside the village hall stands this Jubilee Post. Erected to mark the Queen's Golden Jubilee in 2002. Once isolated villages, Upper Willingdon and Lower Willingdon, are now part of the built-up area of Eastbourne. Monument to Sir John Parker, St Mary's church, Willingdon
Sir John Parker died October 1617, aged 70. Son of Thomas Parker and Eleanor née Waller. Younger brother to Sir Nicholas, he never married. He was MP for Hastings, Truro and various other places.He spent much of his life in Ireland.

Memorial to Eleanor Parker, St Mary's church, Willingdon
"This is for a remembrance of Mrs Eleanor Parker, widow, daughter to William Waller of Grove Bridge esq. Wife to Thomas Parker of Ratton Esq with whom she lived 52 years. She survived 20 years when in a quiet minde lifting her hands up to heaven, said Oh Lord receave my soule. She died 26 February 1598 and was here interred with her beloved husband as she desired. She had three children, one daughter that died an infant and two sonnes Nicolas and John now living both knights all her husband's life. She agreed with his dispositions to spende with great plenty and bountie in hospitalletee. She was wise temperate, milde and gentell in behaviour, very charitable pious and devout. To conclude for goodnes her life and death deserve perpetuall memory. She was 83 yeares of age"
