Meads Place, Gaudick Road, is a large 18th century house. Constructed of red brick and grey headers under a hipped slate roof. Although there is evidence of settlement from the Stone Age onwards, Eastbourne remained an area of small rural settlements until the railway arrived in 1849. A resort, built "for gentlemen by gentlemen", was planned and the town's growth accelerated from a population of less than 4,000 in 1851 to nearly 35,000 by 1891. Tourism is a large and important part of the economy of the town.

De Walden Court, numbers 51 and 53 Meads Road are an impressive Italianate style house, converted into flats in the 1920. Number 53 (Big de Walden) was built in 1884 and number 51 (Little de Walden) added in 1892. Constructed of red brick with sandstone dressings.
