Georgian Townhouse, Prince Albert Street
Head south down Meeting House Lane until Prince Albert Street is reached. This is the southern exit of Meeting House Lane though in the past Black Lion Street which runs behind the photographer continued up the narrow alleyway. Prince Albert Street was completed in 1842 to link Ship Street and East Street.

Black Lion Street
Viewed from King's Road, the A259, with the Old Ship Hotel to the left and the Thistle Hotel to the right. Further down the street on the right hand side are the council offices built as part of the development that included the hotel in the mid 1980s replacing the old market place that had moved to Circus Street during the 1930s and was little more than a car park. The street is named after a former 16th century brewery.

Italian restaurant, Black Lion Street
One of a small chain of Italian restaurants in tourist cities - others are in Oxford, Bath, etc. Photo taken at Sunday lunchtime on a hot sunny day, this area and The Lanes behind were crowded with day trippers and locals.

The Cricketers Pub, Brighton
The oldest pub in Brighton located in Black Lion Street in the centre of Brighton Lanes.
There has been a pub on this site since 1547 and the original landlord, one Derrick Carver, was burnt as a martyr for his religious beliefs. One of the most famous "guests" in the past has been "Jack the Ripper" - and in The Greene Room bar, (upstairs), you can spend some time following the story of his origins and how he planned his murders from this very spot. This is also the famous pub immortalised by Graham Greene in his classic novel "Brighton Rock" http://www.cricketersbrighton.co.uk/

The Old and the New, Black Lion Street
The Black Lion public house after which the street is named, next to the new restaurant owned by Jamie Oliver. The pub today is an exact facsimile of the older pub restored in 1974, and was probably named after the Black Lion of Flanders.
