A Bournemouth bus at Christchurch turntable
This photo, taken in April 1972, shows 189 (CRU 189C), a Bournemouth Corporation Transport Daimler Fleetline with Weymann 74-seater bodywork at the turntable in Church Street. The vehicle was one of ten with a convertible open top and named after a county, this one being SURREY. There is now no sign of this entrance as it has been built over, but the turntable still exists in a courtyard.

The trolleybus turntable at Christchurch, 1965
When trolleybuses replaced trams to Christchurch there was no suitable place for a normal turning circle or a loop of streets, but space was found at the rear of the Dolphin Inn to allow a turntable to be installed. This and a turntable at Longwood in Huddersfield were the only such instances in Britain on normal routes, the latter one being replaced as early as 1931. The Christchurch turntable ceased to be used in normal service after the trolleybuses finished in April 1969, but has survived and is Listed Grade II.
