Purbeck House Hotel detail
The hotel, at Swanage's highest point, was built in the 1870s as the home of George Burt, the man singlehandedly responsible for bringing to his native town so many cast-offs and relics of Victorian London. He built his home in a florid Scottish baronial style.

Purbeck House, Swanage
Built 1875 to the designs of G.R. Crickmay for George Burt. Pevsner calls it "High Victorian at its most rebarbative". It's certainly not pretty. Grade II listed. It used to be a convent but is now a hotel.

Springhill House, Swanage High Street
The plaque on the end wall says AD 1900. Queen Victoria died in January 1901. There can't be many buildings that can claim to be 20th century Victorian.
