Broadstone's Monkey Puzzle
This huge Chilean Pine stands at the entrance to the Broadway, surrounded by pavement, road, shops and supermarkets. With a girth of 2.50 metres, it is Broadstones's landmark after climbing the long hill from Poole. Planted in the front garden of Burton House, long vanished, it should now be on Broadstone's crest.

The Broadway, Broadstone
This is taken looking across the Broadway at the jewellers shop, Forum Jewellers. The Broadway is actually part of the B3074, Lower Blandford Road, and runs from the Derby's Corner roundabout, straight through the centre of the village and meets the large roundabout in the centre of Broadstone. Most of the village shops are situated along this road, such as the Somerfields and Tesco Express supermarkets, two butchers, three hairdressers (one of them is on the right of the photograph), and a bank.

Broadstone's Monterey Pine
Another Broadstone landmark, this very large Monterey Pine (Pinus radiata), native of California, was once in the back garden of Burton House, long vanished. It now stands in the North East Corner of Broadstone's central car park, surrounded by cars and tarmac. With a girth of 4.27 metres, it has been well maintained by the Council. Look for the dense needles in threes and obliquely attached cones, which can stay attached up to 20 years and need forest fires to open and release seeds.
