Poole North is a diverse area that includes large residential areas, places of public entertainment, schools, shopping areas, industrial estates and retail parks, alongside heathland areas that are designated Sites of Special Scientific Interest.

The policing of the area is strongly focused on reducing crime and anti-social behaviour to improve the quality of life for everyone who lives in or visits the area for work or recreation.

Our patrol officers provide a resilient, effective 24 hour policing capability responding to the wide range of incidents and emergencies that can occur in the area. These officers work closely with our Neighbourhood Policing Teams (NPTs) to provide an effective policing service that recognises and responds to the priorities of the community and yet is available to deal with the full spectrum of services required from the police.

The NPTs are dedicated to tackle priority crime and Anti Social Behaviour areas and consist of police officers, PCSOs and volunteers led by two dedicated Sergeants all working in close partnership with other agencies and the local communities to tackle issues and secure long term solutions.

Poole NPT will be conducting Priority surveys with the communities of Poole when we hold engagement events, or attended in support of local authority or other local events.  These questionnaires are aimed at identifying the problems and concerns which matter the most to the community.  These will be targeted and through a process of Problem Oriented Policing and Problem Solving we will work towards solving the problem.  The top three issues raised by the community will be assessed quarterly and input below.

Priorities

1 Oct 2023

Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB)

Drug Dealing came out top in the concerns raised most recently in our priority surveys. As a team we understand that this has a detrimental impact on the local community. The team carry out regular checks on vulnerable persons who are subject to being ‘cuckooed’. This is where dealers will exploit those who use drugs, take over their homes using violence and threats of violence. We work to reduce the risk to such individuals.

Response (1 Jan 2024)

We understand that there are links between drugs, crime, and anti-social behaviour (ASB). We work with partner agencies to bring collaborative approaches to problem solving. We will work with our dedicated Design Out Crime Officer to safeguard those subject to exploitation. We will make referrals to partner agencies to tackle addiction. We will also be on the front foot when it comes to targeting those dealing in our community. We will use policing powers to stop and search persons suspected of dealing where we have grounds to do so.
Early intervention work is carried out through our Safer Schools Team to try and deter addiction from an early age. We will also work with St Mungo’s to support the street homeless community who are also vulnerable to substance abuse and targeting by dealers.
The team contribute to the wider force approach to drugs dealing under Operation Viper. We will highlight areas of concern and look for wider force support where needed. We work with the Neighbourhood Enforcement Team (NET) to address matters that concerns that community. We will utilise our powers under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 to close premises which meet the given thresholds to bring respite to the community. This work also extends to collaboration with the BCP ASB Team to utilise civil orders to help problem solve.
We encourage anyone with concerns to report these through to us via this website. We use this to build information to obtain warrants, inform our targeted patrols and bring offenders to justice.

1 Oct 2023Drugs & County Lines ASB came out as a second priority in our surveys. ASB impacts on people’s lives and can be extremely personal. We are committed to supporting the community and tackling this head on. The Inspector chairs a monthly ASB Intelligence meeting with stakeholders from mental health teams, schools, housing, and council colleagues (to name a few) to discuss problems and investigate partnership solutions.
Early intervention, education and enforcement are all key areas of our plans around tackling ASB in Poole.
Response (1 Oct 2023)

We work under the force response to ASB, known as Op Relentless. This is something we use on our social media channels to demonstrate the patrols being undertaken.
We use data to identify hot spots and have targeted patrols at key times to deter this behaviour. We work with the ASB team from BCP Council to signpost offenders through the agreed escalation process (known as the Consequence Scheme for youth people). We use a similar process of escalation for adults. Sometimes we deploy with other teams within the police such as the Safer Schools Team and sometimes we deploy alongside ASB Officers from BCP.
BCP Council supports this approach through the deployment of Community Safety Patrol Officers (CSAS). These officers work with NPT and participate in joint briefings to understand the problems and a joint response. We use these opportunities to identify those repeat callers and look to support those suffering from this behaviour. We work extremely closely with the dedicated ASB Officer from BCP Council to problem solve and enforce.
We have come through a very busy seasonal demand period and have run regular operations in hot spot areas relating to anti-social use of vehicles (Op Charge), youth related ASB at the beach (Op Sandman) as well as targeted work in other areas focusing on local issues.
