Kinson: Bramley Road
This road is part of a small estate of bungalows around the back of the main shops in Kinson. It is an oddly shaped road layout that from maps or aerial photography looks like an unfinished estate to east or west. The sign is a standard 1980s one, affixed to tubular steel that protrudes at each end. This is photo no.45 of a series of 453 in my coronavirus lockdown walking project: See https://www.geograph.org.uk/article/My-2020-Coronavirus-Lockdown-walking-project for the complete set of photos.

Wimborne Road, Kinson, near Bournemouth
Wimborne Road is on the route of the A341 as it passes through Kinson. Kinson is now in the northern suburbs of Bournemouth, but had developed as a village hundreds of years before Bournemouth came into being. It was absorbed into Bournemouth in 1931.

Kinson: the main road
This is the main shopping street of Kinson, Wimborne Road. Wimborne Road is indeed the main road to Wimborne from Bournemouth and here, three or four miles from its start in the town centre, numbers are reaching the 1500s. The featured shops here stand opposite the concrete shopping complex seen here: Image

Kinson: shopping complex in Wimborne Road
This concrete shopping complex has changed appearance in recent months and is destined for demolition in the next couple of years. Until recently, the frontages facing us did feature a fish and chip shop on the left-hand end, followed by a butcher's and then a large, long closed motoring supplier. The pine furniture shop now taking on the whole frontage has only recently appeared. Beyond, there are a few little shops (florist, confectioner, charity shop are three) before the Co-Op supermarket at the end. It has recently been announced in the local paper, after some speculation, that Tesco have been confirmed as the incumbents and they plan to flatten this parade and replace it with one of its stores and four or five smaller outlets for rent. This has been met with a mixture of annoyance that Tesco are 'opening yet another store in the area' and pleasure that the rather run-down thing is going to be pulled down and replaced. All but one of the current occupiers have accepted the payoff for the remaining lease, while the other has turned down the offers it has received so far. Also in line for the chop is the Royal Oak pub (see Image) which is hidden behind the tree on the right.

Kinson, The Royal Oak
Small 2009 Good Beer Guide-listed pub sandwiched between shopping parade, car park & car dealer. Rectangular bar to back, separate bar & lounge. Good range of cask ales at my visit: Isle of Purbeck Best, Piddle Yogi, Sharp's Doom Bar, Yeovil Rugby. For some very mixed customer reviews, see http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/28/2860/Royal_Oak/Kinson

Sign at entrance to the Royal Oak. Signwriter's error or reference to a grumpy landlord? The latter, I hope.

Kinson: man up a crane (reason unknown)
Looking across from Gillam Road towards the centre of Kinson - I have marked the location as the shopping precinct identifiable as the grey building with the square windows at the bottom of the picture (see Image). The crane appears to be just beyond the shopping precinct, and it is difficult to work out why he is up there. At first glance it looks as if he is working on the electricity cables, but the pylon line in fact runs about half a mile beyond. The shopping precinct is due to be demolished in a few weeks so perhaps he is something to do with that.

Kinson: the Royal Oak
A small pub in the centre of Kinson, set back slightly from the road and closer to the shopping centre behind (just about in shot). It is threatened with eventual closure as part of the redevelopment of the shopping parade - see Image for a picture of the parade and more discussion.
