The Wurlitzer organ in the Victoria Hall
This cinema organ has quite a history. It was originally installed in the Gaumont Cinema, Oldham in 1937, moved in 1966 to the Dale Hall at Hampsthwaite, North Yorkshire, then to the Trinity Arts Centre in Pudsey, Leeds from 1991 to 1994. Down goes the organ!
The Wurlitzer organ was installed in the Victoria Hall in 2009 in the traditional manner, in which the organist rises up through the stage playing the instrument at the start of the recital, and descends during the last piece to rapturous applause. On this occasion the recital of popular music covered everything from Abba's Waterloo to the Teddy Bears' Picnic. Image
