Former Beckfoot Mill
The mill by the Harden Beck produced silk textiles, rather than the wool more usually associated with this area. The mill wheel was within the building, the tailrace emerging from under the cottages at the end show here. It was converted to residential use in 1985. Listed grade II (list entry 1314254).

Footbridge at Beck Foot Mill, Cottingley
Although so narrow, this is a stone-arched bridge; it would be difficult to get a good photograph of the arch, although I suppose one could stand in the middle of the stream. Strictly, this side of the bridge is in Harden. Beck Foot Mill is now residential property.

Beckfoot Lane packhorse bridge
This bridge over the Harden Beck erected in 1723 (with an earlier ford adjacent) would not originally have had fencing at the side - a modern safety measure. The bridge is listed grade II (list entry 1199392). According to one source* it was on "the main highway from Scotland and Cumberland, through Craven to the South of England" used in pre-Reformation times by the monks of Rievaulx Abbey to reach their ironworks at Harden, and was built by two named masons, Ben Craven and Joshua Scott. * "The bridges of Lancashire and Yorkshire", Margaret Slack, Robert Hale 1986, pp. 25-26.
