Old Methodist chapel and the 'Mountain Eagle', Mountain, Yorkshire
The Pennine village of Mountain stands above the 1200ft contour, and the public house here had the splendid name of the 'Mountain Eagle'. It was certainly more popular than the Methodist chapel next door, for early 1983 saw the demolition of the latter. But a fate almost as bad soon overtook the pub, for with new owners it was gutted and, incredibly, its heroic name was changed to the silly 'Mad Ma Reilly's". Mad indeed. So was I.
