Thackley cricket club revisited
A second visit to this area this year, starting near where I finished in April Image This time, a match must just have finished as the score (89 all out) was still shown on the digital scoreboard, and out of shot children were playing on their pitch while their parents were drinking in the clubhouse.

There is a pair of tunnels through the hill north of Thackley, which once carried four tracks of the Midland line from Leeds to Shipley and beyond. Only the northern tunnel is still in use. This air shaft was on the now disused south tunnel. For a closer look see Image

Thackley tunnel air shaft
A rare feature in a disused railway tunnel are open air shafts. Shafts of mystical light still descend into the depths of Thackley tunnel from the world above. Thackley tunnel has four open shafts that radiate this 'Holy grail' superb effect. These ventilation shafts were constructed to allow the smoke to clear from passing steam trains.
