East Lancashire Railway: Diesel Train approaching Townsend Fold
East Lancs railway's class 37 preserved diesel locomotive, 37418, approaches the Townsend Fold level crossing as it hauls a train from Heywood towards Rawtenstall. Originally numbered D6971 the locomotive was built in 1965 at the English Electric Vulcan Foundry. 37418 carried the name 'East Lancashire Railway' for several years although by the time it arrived at Bury for preservation, it had been re-named 'Pectinidae'. 37418 returned to traffic in BR Large Logo Blue (without numbers, logos or name) for the ELR Spring Diesel Gala in March 2015 following a long period out of action following a serious power failure in 2010. http://www.elrdiesel.info/fleet-37418.php East Lancashire Railway Diesel Group

NOT The Flying Scotsman
Despite carrying the famous Flying Scotsman nameplate, this steam locomotive approaching Townsend Fold is actually the ex-Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Aspinall 0-6-0 freight locomotive number 12322. A historic locomotive in its own right, 12322 was built at the Horwich Works in 1896 and is the only survivor of 484 locomotives of its class. It has been preserved by the Ribble Steam Railway but is currently on loan to the East Lancashire Railway.
