Carved stone post by Whins Lane, in parish of READ (RIBBLE VALLEY District), near row of cottages. Formerly on Whalley Road, West of village, opposite small wood, on North side of road. Padiham stone, erected by the Bury to Blackburn, Whalley etc. turnpike trust in the 19th century. See modern replacement in original location: Image

Road Sign
This is the reason for taking Image That gives context to this one, and what appealed to me here was a road sign in danger of being enfolded in a tree.
The other tale to be told here is that someone has painted this sign very recently (though not the road name I notice). This contrasts strongly with Image at the other end of the village.
It is interesting to compare this shot with Image, in which the sign is constructed differently, and the directions are different.
