Carved stone post by Whins Lane, in parish of READ (RIBBLE VALLEY District), near row of cottages. Formerly on Whalley Road, West of village, opposite small wood, on North side of road. Padiham stone, erected by the Bury to Blackburn, Whalley etc. turnpike trust in the 19th century. See modern replacement in original location: Image Inscription reads:- : TO / PADIHAM / 2 MILES / TO / BURNLEY / 6 MILES : : READ : : TO / WHALLEY / 2 MILES / TO / CLITHEROE / 6 MILES : Carved bench mark and rivet on the top.
