Drill Hall Thompson Street Padiham
The building was once occupied as a drill hall by the 5th Battalion, East Lancashire Regiment (E Company) and is currently occupied by Mini Sport.
April 1969 Mini Sport moved into its first dedicated premises at 15 Church St. Padiham, and has been based in the town ever since.
Mini Sport's first seven years in business were an instant success, which meant the owners Brian and Heather's love of competing would be put on hold. Motor sport is in the blood at Mini Sport, and in 1975 Brian won the SD34 Shellsport Rally Championship in his 1340cc Cooper S.
Two years later Mini Sport was growing rapidly, meaning that more space was needed to expand the Engineering Department, dedicated fitting bays and display the myriad products the firm now stocked. At this time the firm moved to its current base in the old drill hall at Thompson Street Padiham where 20,000 square feet of space was available.

Padiham: Former railway bridge
The railway at Padiham was the Great Harwood Loop, which ran from Blackburn to Rose Grove providing an alternative route between these places. It closed for passenger services many years ago, even before Beeching, but the Padiham to Rose Grove bit survived much longer for coal traffic to a power station. This loop would have been ideal for a light-rail conversion. The bridge remains as it is part of a traffic-free cycleway.
