Opened in 1846 by the East Lancashire Railway on its line from Preston to Burnley. View north east towards Rishton and Burnley. This station once had an overall roof.

Up freight passing Blackburn station
View eastward, towards Accrington, Burnley, Colne and Hellifield: ex-L&Y (East Lancs. section). Stanier 5MT 4-6-0 No. 45095 was built in 1935 and here in 1965 is reduced to working a lowly freight, but it was one of the very last survivors at the End of Steam in 8/68.

Blackburn Railway Station
Northern Class 158, No. 158860 departing Platform 4 for Preston. Only running 15 minutes late - a fairly good performance from what has become a complete shambles of a train operating company under the current franchise.

Pacer at Blackburn
Since my last photographs of this station in 1992 Image the old station buildings have been abandoned in favour of this more modest, contemporary station on an adjacent site, but the 1980s Pacer trains are still running. This one is on the new service to Manchester via Rochdale, only possible since the Todmorden chord reopened earlier this year.
