A bench by the signposts
A congregation of country roads between Ashwick and Oakhill are marked by a signpost. The metal bench beside them bears a memorial to a local man who died at only 29. As your Geograph correspondent was taking the shot a friendly woman in a car drew up and inquired. She was the sister of the man concerned!

Pound Lane, a.k.a. Laundry Lane
This road near Ashwick is Pound Lane; it seems to also be known (historically?) as Laundry Lane. Just down the way is a property called The Old Laundry. The old village pound is just behind the camera, incidentally. Just out of shot to the left is a property today but over a century ago was a Unitarian church burial ground.

A bench on Pound Lane
The pane goes across the junction (where the old pound is), with the opposite direction going to Galley Batch. The bench beside may bot have been maintained in the recent past - see Image

A seat that is sliding away
The rotting woodwork and many layers of peeking paint show this bench to be less than cared for. See Image] for a wider view.

The Pound at Ashwick
The old village pound (where errant livestock could be kept if found roaming abroad) lies at the junction of a number of local roads. It dates from perhaps the early seventeenth century if not older.

Notices at the pound
Village information lies beside the old pound - the latter being renovated as part of the Millennium celebrations. Now it is a quiet garden to relax in.
