Hunslet locomotive at Kilmersdon Colliery
Hunslet 0-4-0T 1684 of 1931 arrived at Kilmersdon from Norton Hill Colliery in 1966 following closure of that pit. I don't think she saw much use at Kilmersdon & shortly after my photo was taken was bought for preservation. After several changes of ownership the loco is now at the Middleton Railway in Leeds & so back in the city of her birth but I don't has been steamed since her days in Somerset. For details see: https://preservedbritishsteamlocomotives.com/hunslet-works-no-1684-mendip-collier-0-4-0t/ Shunting at Kilmersdon remained the duty of Peckett 1788 (see Image) until the colliery's closure in 1973.

2009 : Refuse collection at Haydon
A one time coal mining and quarrying hamlet, its main source of income now seems to be an industrial estate. A colliery is marked to the north on an old O.S. map and disused workings to the west. This is Kilmersdon Road out of Radstock.

Peckett locomotive at Kilmersdon Colliery
Peckett 0-4-0ST 1788 was built in 1929 (in Bristol) & supplied new to Kilmersdon Colliery where she spent her entire working life until September 1973 when the mine closed. After 1966 she became a bit of a celebrity in that she was the last working steam locomotive in Somerset (& probably in a much wider area). She is now owned by the Somerset & Dorset Railway Trust & is currently based at their depot at Washford on the West Somerset Railway.
