Sydney Gardens No 2 Tunnel, Kennet and Avon Canal, Bath
The ornate western portal of this short tunnel. Inside can just be seen a figure. In fact he was a man of middle years who had arrived by bicycle and, having set up a music stand and music, was practising his trumpet. Perhaps he found the acoustics good. Or perhaps his wife had banned his trumpet from the house. Whichever, it was for me a unique sight.

Bridge carrying Beckford Road over the railway
The Great Western main line passes under Beckford Road as it leaves Sydney Gardens, Bath, on its way towards London. Judging by the yellow aspect on the signal in front of the bridge, a train has just been through.

Minerva's Temple, Sydney Gardens, Bath
A grand folly, Corinthian columns and pediment containing female figures and a wreathed head of Sulis (loosely I think the goddess of Bath's springs, and often known as Silus Minerva, Image]). By A.J. Taylor, 1911, and moved to its present location in 1913-14 from the Crystal Palace at which it was part of the Empire Exhibition. Grade II listed.

Detail of Minerva's Temple, Sydney Gardens, Bath
The pediment contains carved female figures flanking the head of Sulis, who looks rather masculine for a goddess. Full view: Image
