This curio stands in the garden near the front of the house. Built in 1723, it is thought that parts of it date from another century and were taken from an earlier building.

Brympton D'Evercy House
The daughter of John Stourton was given this beautiful C15 manor house by her father using it as a dowry on the occasion of her marriage to John Sydenham in 1434. The Sydenham family remained the owners until 1731 when it was sold to Francis Fane, a barrister and MP. After nearly 300 years with this family and their descendants, that included a short spell when it was open to the public, it was finally sold to a private buyer in 1992. As well as a private home, it is now an exclusive country house wedding and reception venue.

Sir John Sydenham's tomb - detail
Sir John Sydenham died in 1626 and was laid to rest in a very smart and colourful tomb in Brympton d'Evercy church. The base of the tomb is decorated with armorial shields, skulls and arcading to show off the bones inside. The bones are probably carved in marble!
