The Walk and Talk Scheme offers female members of the public the chance to book a walk with one of Yeovil’s female police officers or PCSOs and show them areas where they feel vulnerable or unsafe.

This gives officers and PCSOs the opportunity to:

• gain a better understanding of women’s safety in their local community
• tackle potential violence against women and girls
• work with our partner agencies to facilitate positive change

This scheme is still available and we would encourage any females who sometimes feel unsafe, in the areas that they walk, to apply. We look forward to hearing from you!

We have received some reports of anti-social driving in the Barwick area. This behaviour is mainly occurring during the night and is causing a nuisance to local residents. If you have been affected by this, please ensure you report it to us either by phone: 101, or online: Report anti-social driving or riding | Avon and Somerset Police. 

Please provide as much information as you can about the vehicle colour, make, model and ideally a vehicle registration number.

Patrols were done in the village and also along the A37.

Yeovil Neighbourhood Policing Team work closely with Community Speedwatch (CSW) volunteers. This is a joint approach to deter speeding drivers and improve road safety.

Our approach will include:

• Warning letters sent to registered keepers identified by CSW.
• Follow-up visits to addresses where persistent speeding is reported.

• Always check your speed, especially when entering built up towns, villages and rural areas.
• Remember: speed limits are the maximum, not a target—adjust for road conditions.
• Slowing down saves lives. Pedestrians, cyclists, and horse riders are more vulnerable in rural communities.

• Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN):
• Speed Awareness Course: Offered in some cases instead of points (eligibility depends on speed and previous history).
• Court Proceedings: For excessive speeds or repeat offences, you may face higher fines, more points, or even disqualification.

Anti-social Behaviour (ASB) can have a devastating impact on individuals as well as our local community, and everyone has the right to feel safe where they live, and we all have apart to play in this.

We always encourage our communities to report persistent Anti Social Behaviour in your areas, either by calling us on 101, using our website to report things online, or by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Our local neighbourhood teams work alongside our constabulary’s specialist anti-social behaviour team, as well as other local authority services and charities, to work with those involved in low level offending. This ranges from warning letters to education and support. We also work with those involved in more persistent offending with higher end interventions, such as Community Protection Notices and Community Behavioural Orders that can include arrestable conditions.

We’re asking our rural communities across the Yeovil area to be alert to potential poaching activity.

Poaching is illegal and can lead to significant harm to local wildlife, farmland, and livestock. It frequently involves trespassing, property damage, and can be linked to wider rural crime.

What poaching can look like:

• Illegal hunting of deer, hare, or game
  • Entering private land without permission to take wildlife
  • Using lamps, lurchers, or other equipment to hunt at night
  • Activity in fields or woodland outside permitted seasons

•  Vehicles parked in gateways, tracks, or laybys late at night
• Strong lamps or torches sweeping across fields
• Dogs or equipment associated with hunting
• People walking on farmland where they shouldn’t be

Your reports help us build intelligence, plan patrols, and work with landowners to deter rural crime.
