Former Auction Market, Quiet Street, Bath
Probably by Henry Goodridge, 1824-25. Plain three-bay ends, the centre treated more expansively with statues of Commerce, Genius and a figure above the parapet (Image]). The composition is inspired by the Choragic Monument of Thrasyllus which stood on the Acropolis in Athens (until the Turks destroyed it in 1826). Grade II* listed.
Now just retail, including Cheltenham & Gloucester and the Royal Bank of Scotland.

A colour-themed window in Kitchens
'Kitchens', a shop selling kitchen equipment, has recently taken to elaborate window displays of one colour and rigid symmetry. This arrangement in blue (note the suspended biscuit cutters) succeeded an orange one for Hallowe'en.

Bucking the trend at the Raven on Queen Street, Bath
Industry guidelines state that only 19 fluid ounces of liquid needs to be served when ordering a pint in a public house. And at least one brewery (Sam Smiths) make a point in giving it's customers only 19 fluid ounces. So much so that it is a sackable offence to give customers a full 20 ounces of liquid. Other brewery's do it, but as far as I know only Sam Smiths as it written into their managers contract of employment.

The Raven Inn
Amongst the very many visual pleasures of central Bath, one that always pleases me greatly is the way that its street names are carved so expertly into the honeyed stone. Quiet Street is a fine example, though with so many pubs, bars and restaurants here, the name may well be something of a misnomer.
