2008 : Limerick Lane near Beckington
As a young lad around 1950 I was walking along a lane such as this near Charfield in South Glos. when I came to a field hedge neatly cut this way, the farmer had left trees growing out of it about 20 or 30 yards apart. It was a hot and sunny July day and the shade was much appreciated. I mentioned this to an old gent standing in a gateway and he said "They trees aren't for shade you know, they have to be left to stop the devil running along the top of the hedge."

Beckington, old A36
The Warminster to Bath road used to use a loop via White Row Farm, and then through the village; this has now been by-passed, and this section is now "another route with public access".
