Redditch Town Hall
The home of Redditch Borough Council, seen here from the top of a multi-storey car park. The road layout in the foreground seems somewhat confusing!

The Palace Theatre, Alcester Street, Redditch
This look like a recent extension to house a foyer and front-of-house functions. The body of the theatre is behind the white facade to the left.

The southeast end of Alcester Street, Redditch town centre
Part of the council offices is on the right, flying the Union Jack. Trees undoubtedly enhance and – paradoxically – humanise town streets. There is sometimes a nervousness about them "getting too big", so they get lopped, as here, though I've seen worse. A tree that's allowed to develop its natural form and habit is, to my eye, more attractive and harmonious. It's a difficult act to pull off because it relies equally on judgement and luck, it needs valuable space and it takes decades.

Alcester Street, Redditch
For a street that used to be quite a major town centre one, and passes the town hall on the left, this is not very impressive.

Redditch Town Hall
Once Britain created buildings which often subtly bore the characteristics of particular regions but nowadays many of our functional monstrosities could belong to any town, anywhere.

The Palace Theatre Redditch
Opened in 1913 and with a Grade II Listed auditorium, the theatre has had a chequered history. It was refurbished in 2005 http://www.redditchpalacetheatre.co.uk/about-us/the-history/.
