The white building is the side of the Palace Theatre. Trees undoubtedly enhance and – paradoxically – humanise town streets. There is sometimes a nervousness about them "getting too big", so they get lopped, as here, though I've seen worse. A tree that's allowed to develop its natural form and habit is, to my eye, more attractive and harmonious. It's a difficult act to pull off because it relies equally on judgement and luck, it needs valuable space and it takes decades.
